Current mood: Dumbfounded

Hey look, I'm the media!
Well at first I felt I had some sort of obligation to check in on the whole 'Lite-Brite Part 2: The Vengeance' thing that happened the other day, but then I found this, and it basically summed up everything I wanted to convey in a much better manner...

In short, my actual feelings: Star fucked up, the police fucked up, the media is completely retarded. Stop watching the news and learn to write your name in LEDs.

I don't know that the police really fucked up, other than the statement made about rather seeing her in a cell than a morgue, which honestly is a fair emotion. I doubt, since she cooperated fully (other than when she was initially asked what it was and WALKED AWAY WITHOUT ANSWERING DURRRR), that she was ever in any serious danger. However, the media of course latched on to that because it's a freaking amazing quote for them to make a big deal out of.

And seriously - I think the students have turned around and made it an even bigger media shitstorm. Let's jump all over MIT. MIT was in a damned if you do, damned if you don't position. They made what I consider to be a rather innocuous statement and they get ripped a new one. Seriously, there should not be a protest about this. Protest about the hackers getting fucked with, but not about some girl who didn't think about what she was doing and that MIT had no part in other than by letting her take some classes on their campus.

I'll agree that they responded in an appropriate manner. They weren't the ones who made the initial judgment call, so for all they knew they were responding to an actual suicide bomber. At every point after that, though, they just went too far. Honestly, arresting her, pressing such harsh charges, and calling a press conference (which was mainly just one guy gloating about how well they did...which they didn't) were totally out of line. I think she should have been fined to cover the cost / inconvenience of the police, and let go with a formal warning.

I can't speak for the aftermath, other than isn't it no longer in the hands of the police when it comes to pressing charges and the press conference? That's the DA office yes? And that brings us back to politicians/media. And I wholeheartedly agree with a "fuck you" to them.
